Over the years I have written four letters to The New York Times. Two of them were published which shows that my view points were taken into consideration.

JEAN THE FIRST STAR OF SILENT MOVIES

From 1910 to 1912 she made 16 films for Vitagraph. Then in 1913 she left to make movies in England but World War I made it impossible. She returned to Hollywood but died in 1916.
Jean had 4 paws! She was a dog! It was the first dog star! Then in 1920 Rintintin appeared.  Like Charles Boyer and Maurice Chevalier, Rintintin was imported from France.  Rintintin did several movies. In the 30ths and 40ths, other dogs came to stardoom. The most famous ones were Lassie and Asta which real name was Skippy. Lassie starred in several movies and the most famous one was " Lassie Come Home" with Elizabeth Taylor. Skippy played Asta in the series "The Tin Man" and appeared together with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant in the movie "Bring Up Baby"
Nowadays the biggest dog movie star is Uggie, who starred in the movie "The Artist" along Jean Dujardin. Uggie is described by some critics as " stealing every scene". He became the first dog ever to have his paws imprinted in Hollywood's walk of fame.
