Over the years I have written four letters to The New York Times. Two of them were published which shows that my view points were taken into consideration.

Artemisia, a woman many centuries ahead of her time!

She lived in the XVI century, the time when professions like painters, writers, doctors ...were totally dominated by men. She didn't disguised herself as a man, like centuries later, Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin, a.k.a. George Sand had to do in order to be accepted by the literary circles. Artemisia Gentileschi kept her integrity as a woman and succeeded. Maybe due the oppression she felt by men, some of her work depicted women subjugating men such as Judith slaying Holofe

rnes, Sansom and Delilah, Jael and Sisera, Salome...which she painted several version, and powerful women such Cleopatra.
